According to a recent report released by ComScore, the leading retail activities among smartphone users are finding a store (33%), comparing prices (21%), and looking for deals (20%).

ShopToIt’s local store directory, and comparison shopping and deals aggregation features cater to all these activities in one convenient experience. Shoppers can easily research and compare products, find an online retailer or local store near them to buy it, or browse all daily deals in their area in the ShopToIt Deal Depot.

Originally launched as Canada’s first bilingual online shopping engine in 2005, ShopToIt’s first foray into smartphone shopping was the 2010 launch of Canada’s first mobile shopping app (free for download on iTunes) – ShopToIt Mobile.

Here shoppers can easily find local stores, get directions, and browse products. The app was also designed to serve as a one-stop-shop for the emerging daily deal market by serving up an aggregation of all the daily deals offered in the user’s area. This conveniently reduces the number of sites deal hunters have to visit, or daily emails they have to open.

In 2011, the Local Stores Program was launched to enhance the ShopToIt geo-locational shopping experience. Over 85,000 store locations across Canada were imported and retailers were encouraged to “claim” their store and complete useful store information such as hours of operation, keywords, retail categories and store descriptions in order to further enrich the user experience. By claiming their store and completing non-mandatory information, willing participants are rewarded with a series of boost points that increase the prominence of their store listing on the web and in the mobile application. Free store listings and increased sales for Canadian retailers, and a rich local shopping experience for online and mobile shoppers is a win for everybody, but these initiatives merely scratch the surface of whats to come.

Stay tuned for details on some big developments in the next few weeks. In the meantime check out these cool local shopping features on the web or on ShopToIt Mobile – and make sure to take advantage of ShopToIt’s free services for local retailers.
